X-ray sources

Portable X-ray tubes and generators 160–320 kV

Solutions for radiographic inspection in the field, workshop, production and service environments. The choice between 160, 200, 300 or 320 kV depends on material, thickness, geometry, accessibility and required sensitivity.

  • Directional or panoramic generators for welds, piping and metallic components.
  • Portable, trolley-mounted or integration-ready configurations.
  • Configuration to be evaluated according to material, thickness, geometry and productivity requirements.

Film, CR or DR

Three workflows, one application-driven choice.

Film radiography

For established procedures, physical archives and contexts where the traditional process is still required or convenient.

Computed Radiography

For gradual digital transition with imaging plates, scanner and more flexible image management than film.

Digital Radiography

For direct digital acquisition, productivity, traceability, reporting and software integration.

PITECH approach

Application first, product second.

PITECH supports the selection process starting from the component, material, thickness, defect type, inspection frequency, procedural requirements and workflow objectives.

Evaluation checklist

  • Material, thickness and component geometry.
  • Defect type and sensitivity required.
  • Choice between film, CR and DR.
  • X-ray range and accessories required.
  • Workflow, available skills and process constraints.
  • Technical-commercial evaluation of the most suitable solution.
Technical criteria

How to choose the tube, generator and radiography system.

Industrial radiography is sized around the application: material, thickness and defect type determine energy, geometry and imaging type. These are the key parameters PITECH evaluates with you.

Energy (kV/MeV) and thickness

Material thickness and density determine the required energy: portable 160–320 kV generators cover most steel up to medium thicknesses; high thicknesses or dense materials may require higher energy. It is the first sizing criterion.

Focal spot and sharpness

Focal spot size affects geometric sharpness and detectability of small defects: small focal spots improve definition, important for magnification and fine indications.

Film, CR or DR

Film offers high resolution but a slow workflow; CR digitises with reusable phosphor plates; DR provides immediate digital acquisition and high productivity. The choice depends on volumes, required productivity and film transition.

Image quality and IQI

Sensitivity, contrast and compliance with image quality indicators (IQI) per standard drive the choice of detector, exposure parameters and source-to-object distance.

Duty cycle and cooling

High volumes and continuous use require attention to duty cycle, thermal management and source reliability, so real field or cabinet productivity is not limited.

Radiation safety and compliance

Radiography uses ionising radiation: shielding, controlled areas, dosimetry and procedures are part of the project. PITECH also supports radiation-protection accessories and training.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions on industrial radiography

What energy (kV) do I need for my thickness?

It depends on material and thickness: portable 160–320 kV generators cover much of the steel range up to medium thicknesses. High thicknesses or dense materials may need higher energy. PITECH helps size the source to the application.

Film, CR or DR — which is better?

Film gives high resolution but is slow; CR digitises with reusable phosphor plates; DR is digital and fast, ideal for high productivity. The choice depends on volumes, workflow and film transition.

Is industrial radiography standardised?

Yes, radiographic inspection follows standards and procedures (image quality, IQI, operator qualification). PITECH guides system and accessory selection in line with applicable requirements.

Does PITECH also supply accessories and radiation protection?

Yes: films, chemicals, processors, reference blocks, radiographic accessories, dosimeters and radiation-protection materials, in addition to tubes, generators and CR/DR systems.

How do I request an evaluation?

State material, thickness, defect type, volumes and operating environment. With this data PITECH proposes the most suitable radiography configuration. Use the form below or WhatsApp.
